Blockchain Confirmation

A blockchain confirmation is the validation of a cryptocurrency transaction by network participants, occurring each time a new block containing that transaction is added to the ledger.

How Confirmation Thresholds Affect Deposit Settlement

When sending a crypto deposit to an online casino or sportsbook, funds do not credit instantaneously at the broadcast stage. The cashier platform monitors the network and waits until a preset number of blocks build on top of the original transaction block. Each subsequent block added to the chain acts as an additional confirmation, compounding the cryptographic proof and making it exponentially harder to alter or reverse the ledger entry.

Operators enforce these minimum thresholds to protect against double-spending attacks and temporary chain reorganizations. Double spending involves broadcasting conflicting transactions to spend the same balance twice before the ledger finalizes. Waiting for multiple confirmations ensures the network consensus has locked in the transaction before the operator exposes its balance sheet to player withdrawals or immediate wagers.

  • Bitcoin (BTC): Most platforms require between one and three confirmations, resulting in processing times between ten and thirty minutes under normal network conditions.
  • Ethereum (ETH): Platforms commonly require twelve to thirty-two block confirmations, usually settling within two to seven minutes.
  • Solana (SOL) and Ripple (XRP): Due to rapid consensus mechanisms, these networks achieve finality in seconds, often requiring only one network confirmation for instant balance crediting.
  • Litecoin (LTC): Cashiers typically require two to six confirmations, taking between five and fifteen minutes.

Confirmation vs Network Mempool Broadcast

A frequent point of confusion for players is the difference between an unconfirmed mempool broadcast and a confirmed ledger inclusion. Submitting a transfer immediately generates a transaction ID (TXID) visible on a blockchain explorer, placing the transaction in the mempool (memory pool). However, zero confirmations have occurred at this stage. A transaction achieves its first confirmation only when a validator or miner packages it into an active block, shifting its status from pending to verified.
