Rakeback

Rakeback is an ongoing player rebate that returns a percentage of the commission or theoretical house edge generated during wagering sessions back to the player.

How Rakeback Operates and Adds Value

In online poker rooms, operators collect a small fee called rake from each cash game pot or tournament entry. In crypto and online casinos, operators apply a similar framework to casino games by tracking the theoretical house edge across every bet placed. A rakeback program calculates this generated margin and refunds an agreed portion directly to the player balance on a daily, weekly, or instant basis.

Evaluating a rakeback structure depends on specific tracking and payout rules:

  • Calculation baseline: Poker models calculate returns using contributed rake or weighted-contributed rake, while casino setups calculate returns from total turnover multiplied by the house edge percentage.
  • Settlement frequency: Platforms may disburse funds instantly on demand, at the close of every session, or through tiered weekly claims.
  • Wagering requirements: Premium rakeback programs credit rebates as unrestricted cash balances rather than bonus funds subject to playthrough restrictions.

Rakeback Compared to Cashback

While both incentives return capital to participants, rakeback operates independently of final win or loss outcomes. Cashback activates strictly when a player records a net negative balance over a defined timeframe. In contrast, rakeback accrues on every qualified wager regardless of whether the underlying hand or spin resulted in a win or a loss.

High-volume participants prioritize rakeback because it permanently increases the effective return to player percentage across all active gameplay.
